ORBIT is a non-profit that fosters the coexistence and democratic cooperation of people from different cultures, religions and philosophies.
Specifically, ORBIT champions respect for the stories, the rights and the dignity of people with a migration background.
As a socio-cultural movement, ORBIT wants to help develop the capabilities and conditions that allow people to continuously engage in dialogue. To that end, the initiatives we develop contribute to exchanges that promote a just and peaceful coexistence. It is important to us that these initiatives provide people with a sense of self-worth, interconnectedness and solidarity.
The concept of an intercultural and inter-philosophical community development is meant to appeal to the social responsibility of both individuals and their communities as well as to encourage them to participate in the development of their society, both locally and globally.
The issue of multiculturalism is linked to the issue of migration. That is why ORBIT is changing the way people look at migration by having them focus on the migrants’ stories, their motivations for emigrating or fleeing, the reason why they reside in Flanders, the manner in which they were welcomed and taken in, and the opportunities they were granted to develop and cope with the reasons for their migration. These aspects deserve a prominent position in the public debate and in the workings of ORBIT.
